California is a great place to go out for a drive. For all of those people who have convertibles (or have hacked off the hood of your car), you can really feel the weather and wind blowing past you. Of course, if you intend to be able to experience this, you need to first make sure that you have passed your CA Driver’s Education Course (as is obvious).
Driver’s Education Entails
The details of a Driver’s Ed Course varies from state to state. In California however, you can expect this course to involve the following:
1. A total of 30 hours of driver’s ed classes
2. Six hours taking actual driving practice with a trained instructor
It may not be the most enthralling 36 odd hours of work, but hey, if you put in the effort and make sure that it’s done the first time, you never have to revisit it.
Provisional Licenses
After you pass the Driver’s Education course, it is important to note that you are not quite out of the woods of learning how to drive; if you are under the age of 18 and over the age of 15 and six months, you are only given a provisional license. With this kind of license, you are treated more strictly than a person with a regular driver’s license.
1. While this may seem entirely obvious, you must obey traffic laws and avoid a collision (essentially, stay sharp and don’t mess around while driving!)
2. You must drive with another person 25 years or older (who may be a spouse, parent, guardian, or other adult)
Once you have held a provisional license for six months, you can then go on to take a driving test to get your actual license.
Driver’s Ed Benefits
Aside from the obvious one of being able to drive a car, driver’s ed has a lot of benefits.
1. For all of you younger drivers, you can get some valuable education and experience to make you a better driver (and to avoid making many of the stupid mistakes a lot of younger drivers often make!).
2. Older, more experienced drivers who need a good refresher on driving and the rules of the road can brush up on it all and make yourself a better driver as a result. In particular, one of the best things for older drivers to gain is a better understanding of rules and signs that have been implemented since they originally took their driver’s ed training course.
3. Depending on your insurance provider, you may be able to get a nice little discount on your vehicle insurance. (However, for CA, taking an online traffic school usually works best).
4. And for this one, let’s just ignore the objective benefits – the freedom to drive wherever, whenever, and with whomever you like is just the best. No longer having to limit when and where you can go based on whether you have someone who can give you a lift, is THE BEST!
There are a number of other benefits that you can get, but these are the biggest ones.
